1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how Mattress by Appointment Wausau (“we,” “us,” or “our”), an independently owned and operated mattress retailer in Wausau, Wisconsin, collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit www.mattressbyappointmentwisconsin.com, interact with our ads on Facebook, Instagram, or other Meta platforms, message us, call or text us, or visit us for an appointment.
We run advertising on Meta platforms (including Facebook and Instagram). Meta requires that we publish a privacy policy explaining how advertising tools such as the Meta Pixel collect and share data. This policy is written for that purpose and for our customers in Wisconsin and anywhere else our ads may be shown.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
We do not currently operate an online checkout or account on this website. You may give us information when you:
- Call or text us at 715-280-6800
- Message us on Facebook Messenger
- Schedule or attend a private appointment
- Purchase a mattress, adjustable base, or related product in person
- Ask about payment plans or financing
That information may include your name, phone number, message content, mattress size or preferences, appointment date and time, purchase details, and, if you apply for financing, information needed by a financing partner (which is collected and processed by that partner under its own privacy policy).
Information collected automatically
When you visit our website or interact with our ads, we and our advertising partners automatically collect:
- Device and browser information (such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and language)
- Pages viewed, links clicked (including Call and Message buttons), dates and times of visits, and referring URLs
- Approximate location derived from IP address
- Cookie identifiers, pixel IDs, and similar online identifiers
- Information about how you arrived at our site from an advertisement (including Meta ad click IDs)
3. Cookies, pixels, and the Meta Pixel
We use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to operate our site, measure traffic, and run and measure advertising.
Meta Pixel. We use the Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel) on this website. The Pixel is a snippet of JavaScript provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. It collects information about your visit — including pages viewed, buttons clicked (such as Call or Message Us), your IP address, browser and device data, and cookie identifiers — and sends that information to Meta. If you are logged into Facebook or Instagram, Meta may associate that activity with your account.
We use this data so we can:
- Show you relevant ads on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other Meta placements
- Measure whether our ads lead to website visits, calls, messages, and other actions
- Build custom audiences and lookalike audiences
- Limit how often you see our ads and improve campaign performance
Meta may also use this information to improve its own advertising and measurement services, as described in Meta’s Privacy Policy and Meta’s explanation of Business Tools.
We may also use Meta’s conversions API, advanced matching, or similar tools that send hashed information (such as a phone number, if you have provided one) to Meta to improve ad measurement. Hashed values are used for matching and are not meant to be readable as plain text by Meta during that matching process.
4. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to calls, texts, and Messenger conversations and schedule appointments
- Complete in-store sales and provide customer service
- Send appointment reminders or follow-up messages you would reasonably expect
- Operate, maintain, and improve our website
- Run, target, personalize, and measure advertisements, including on Meta platforms
- Create and use custom audiences, lookalike audiences, and retargeting campaigns
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and technical issues
- Comply with law and enforce our rights
5. Advertising and Meta (Facebook & Instagram)
We advertise on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Meta Audience Network. Those ads may be shown to people in Wisconsin and surrounding areas who may be interested in mattresses, home furnishings, or similar products, and to people who have visited our website or contacted us.
In connection with those ads, we may share information with Meta, or Meta may collect information through our Pixel and ads, including:
- Website events (PageView, Contact, Lead, and similar events)
- The fact that you clicked a Call or Message Us button
- Customer list data (such as phone numbers of people who have inquired or purchased), uploaded in hashed form, to create Custom Audiences — only where permitted by Meta’s terms and applicable law
- Information needed to measure ad performance and optimize delivery
If you message us through Facebook Messenger, Meta processes that conversation under its own terms. We use the content of those messages to answer you and schedule your appointment.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do share identifiers and activity data with advertising partners such as Meta so we can show and measure ads. Some privacy laws treat that kind of sharing as a “sale” or “share” for cross-context behavioral advertising. See Section 8 for your choices.
6. Who we share information with
We share information only as needed to run the business:
- Meta Platforms, Inc. — advertising, measurement, Messenger, and the Meta Pixel, as described above
- Website hosting and technical providers — to serve and secure this website
- Communications tools — phone, text, and messaging services used to reach us
- Financing or payment partners — if you choose a payment plan in store; those partners receive the information they need to process your application and collect payment, under their own policies
- Professional advisors and service providers — such as accountants or IT support, under appropriate confidentiality
- Authorities — when required by law, or to protect our customers, our store, or our rights
- A buyer of the business — if we sell or transfer the store, customer information may transfer as part of that transaction
We do not sell customer lists to unrelated third-party data brokers.
7. Your choices
Ads on Facebook and Instagram
You can review and change your ad preferences in your Meta account:
- Facebook Ad Preferences
- Instagram privacy and security settings
- Your Facebook ad settings, including whether ads are shown based on activity from partners
You can also use Meta’s tools to opt out of seeing ads from this business, or to hide our ads. Opting out of personalized ads does not stop all ads — you may still see ads that are not based on your profile.
Cookies and industry opt-outs
- Use your browser settings to block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies may limit the Pixel and some site features.
- Digital Advertising Alliance: optout.aboutads.info
- Network Advertising Initiative: optout.networkadvertising.org
- If you use a mobile device, you can limit ad tracking in iOS or Android settings.
Calls, texts, and Messenger
You can stop further promotional texts by telling us to stop, and you can block or hide our Messenger thread at any time. We still need to keep records of purchases and appointments as required for the business.
8. U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and other states with consumer privacy laws), you may have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we have about you
- Request deletion of personal information, subject to legal exceptions
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, or of targeted advertising
- Appeal a decision we make about a privacy request
We do not use sensitive personal information from this website to infer characteristics about you. We do not knowingly “sell” or “share” the personal information of consumers under 16.
To exercise these rights, call or text us at 715-280-6800 and ask for a privacy request. We will need to verify who you are (for example, by matching the phone number you used to contact us). You may use an authorized agent where the law allows it; we may still need to verify the request with you directly.
Do not sell or share / opt out of targeted advertising. You can make that request by calling or texting 715-280-6800. You can also limit Meta’s use of your data through the ad settings linked in Section 7. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as an opt-out of sale/sharing and targeted advertising where required by law.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
9. How long we keep information
We keep inquiry and customer records as long as needed to schedule appointments, complete sales, provide service, measure advertising, and meet tax, accounting, and legal requirements. Website analytics and ad-platform data are kept according to those platforms’ retention settings and our business needs. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed.
10. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, including limiting who can access customer records. No website, ad platform, or phone system is completely secure. Please avoid sending sensitive financial information (such as full Social Security numbers or bank details) by unsecured text or Messenger; financing applications are handled in person or through the financing partner’s process.
11. Children
Our website and ads are intended for adults shopping for mattresses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not direct our services to children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, call us and we will delete it.
12. Third-party sites and services
Our “Message Us” button opens Facebook Messenger, which is operated by Meta. Our ads appear on Meta’s apps and websites. Those services have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for Meta’s practices. Please read Meta’s policies before using Messenger or a Facebook/Instagram account.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, advertising tools, or the law change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. The current version will always be posted at www.mattressbyappointmentwisconsin.com/privacy.
